Moxie Chicken Wings

Chris and Jeff make a variation on traditional Chinese Coca Cola Chicken wings using a Downeast favorite, Moxie. America’s oldest bottled sodas makes a great chicken wing!

Moxie Chicken Wings

  • 1 lb chicken wings
  • 6 fl ounces Moxie soda
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon shao xing wine
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 3-4 coins of ginger
  • dried tangerine peel
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • salt to taste (optional)
  • scallion, green part, chopped for garnish
  • oil for pan frying
  1. Add oil to a hot skillet, then add chicken wings. Brown the wings for a couple minutes, the flip to get color on the other side of the wings.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients, cover, lower heat to low and allow to braise/simmer.
  3. In about 15 minutes remove cover and then keep your eyes on the pan. Toss the wings in the pan occasionally and remove from heat when the liquid reaches a thick glaze. Careful that you don’t allow it to burn!
  4. Add salt to taste.
  5. Plate the wings, pour remaining sauce onto the wings (without the aromatics). Garnish with scallion greens, and serve!
